Mrs. Amy Brisbin-
I have been working in the Altoona School District for 35 years. I work with students in the Life Skills Support Classes. One of the focuses of our curriculum is community based instruction. Students practice functional academics, social skills and mobility skills in the community. In addition, the students participate in classroom academics and cooking class. The students also focus on learning skills that will help them find employment. Many of the students have work experience in the community or within the school building. I also am the mentor for the club, Circle of Friends. This club's focus is to foster relationships between students with and without intellectual disabilities. Each month, friends get together to participate in a variety of activities. Students who become members of this club experience friendship, dedication, and responsibility.
