This is just a reminder when filling out scholarship applications to please be aware of deadlines. We will not accept late applications for any scholarships that are being returned to the counseling office. NO EXCEPTIONS!!

Attention Seniors:  Are you going on to college to major in education?   If so, you will want to stop by the guidance office to pick up an application for a $1,000 scholarship from the Blair County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees. Original application needs  to be mailed and must be received by May 26th.  
 
Attention Seniors:  Announcing another scholarship opportunity.  Stop by the Guidance office to pick up an application for the second LUCY (Living and Understanding the Community as a Youth) Scholarship. Student must be in financial need and have already been accepted to a college or trade school.  Deadline is April 14th.  
 
Attention Seniors:  Stop by the Guidance office to pick up an application for the Lucy Johnson Scholarship.  This $1,000 Scholarship is being offered to Altoona residents who have been accepted to a post secondary program and are a person of color.   Deadline for this Scholarship is April 14th. 
 
Attention Seniors: The William Sankey Memorial Scholarship for students do you have a 90% GPA or higher and have been part of a sport for each of 9th through 12th grade.  Stop by the Guidance office literature rack to pick up an application.  Deadline for applications to be turned into the Guidance Office is April 14th. 
 
Attention Seniors: The Devon Pfirsching Scholarship for students who have participated in a sport or club and are planning on post-secondary education. Stop by the Guidance office literature rack to pick up an application.  Deadline for applications to be turned into the Guidance Office is April 14th.
 
Attention Seniors: The Jaffa Shrine Highlanders Scholarship is here. This scholarship is open to all seniors and you do NOT need to have a family member in the Shrine. Stop by the Guidance office literature rack to pick up an application.  Deadline for applications to be turned into the Guidance Office is Thursday, March 30th. 
 
Attention Seniors:  Are you looking for another scholarship opportunity?  Do you have a family member who is a Veteran.  If you answer yes to both of these questions, then be sure to stop by the Guidance office literature rack and look for the Sweat 4 Vets Scholarship Application.  Last year, seven $1,000 scholarships were awarded to deserving seniors and they are on track to do the same again this year!  Completed forms must be submitted no later than April 1, 2023.  
 
Attention Seniors:  You will find a new scholarship opportunity in the literature rack outside of the Guidance Office starting today.  The Altoona Kiwanis Foundation Scholarship for students enrolling in Penn State Altoona has been announced.  To be considered for this scholarship, you must complete a one page application and submit it before March 31st!  
 
Attentions Seniors: Is someone in your immediate family on active duty or has been honorably discharged from the military?  If so, and you are planning on attending college or a trade school and are looking for scholarships then this announcement is for you.  Stop by the literature rack outside of the guidance office and pick up an application for the Stephanine Risban Scholarship.  Application and essay must be submitted by March 31st

 

Attention Seniors who will be attending Juniata College:  If you have an interest in instrumental music, then be sure to stop by the guidance office and pick up information on how to apply for one of the many scholarships they are offering.  
 
Attention Seniors: If you are interested in agriculture, botany, forestry, floral design, and the like, stop by the guidance office literature rack to pick up information about scholarships being offered by the Blair Garden Club.  Deadline is April 5th.
 
Attention Seniors:  The Pennsylvania House of Representatives Scholarship program awards the value of one semester of tuition for each of four years!  Don't miss out on your chance to be considered for this awesome scholarship.  Stop by the Guidance Office to pick up an information sheet on how to apply.  Deadline is April 1st!  
 
Attention Seniors:  Are you planning a career in a Healthcare-focused field?  If so, you will want to stop by the guidance office to pick up some information on applying for  PHN Charitable Foundation Scholarships.  Deadline is March 31st.  

 

AAHS Scholarship:

Many scholarships are available to members of the Senior Class each year through this application. Criteria used in the selection of applications may include academic record and activity involvement. Some scholarship qualifications also stipulate that the student demonstrate a financial need. If you want to be considered for our 2023 scholarships, please complete the application by Monday, February 13, 2023. AASD 2023 Elementary School PTO Scholarship Application:

Note: You must have been a student at that school for at least two years. You may only apply for one of the elementary scholarships even if you attended more than one school. If the recipient of an Elementary School Scholarship demonstrates behavior deemed unacceptable, as stated in the Altoona Area High School Student Code of Conduct, the Principal of the Elementary School reserves the right to rescind said Scholarship. Courage for Kiera Foundation Scholarship:

This $2500 scholarship will be awarded to the post-high school education of a 2023 graduating senior's choice. The criteria for this award is: Must be a a graduating AAHS senior of the class of 2023. Must have been part of the AAHS Music Department throughout high school. Must include an essay containing at least 300 words using the following prompt as a guide:

"Throughout her long battle against childhood cancer, Kiera demonstrated incredible courage. How have you shown courage in your life"

Scholarship applications and information on where to send the completed applications can be found in the literature rack outside the Guidance Office.

Submissions must be postmarked by March 15, 2023.

 

Attention Seniors:   The Blair County Tea Party is offering a $1,000 scholarship for seniors who plan on attending college or other type of educational pursuits.  To be considered for this scholarship, students need to write a 500 word essay on one of three topics selected by the Blair County Tea Party.  Stop by the Guidance office literature rack for a list of topics and instructions on how to enter.  The deadline for this scholarship March  31st.  

 

Attention Seniors:  The Western Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association is announcing an essay contest wherein 3 winners will receive a $2,000 scholarship.  If you are interested in submitting an essay, stop by the literature rack outside of the guidance office to find how to register for an information packet. 

 

Attention Students:  Gettysburg College Jewish Studies Committee is awarding cash prizes of up to $1,000 during their Fourth Annual Georges Lieber Essay Contest on Resistance.  To qualify for a chance to win you must write a 3,000 word essay regarding resistance currently going on in American life, an international crisis or a personal issue and submit the essay electronically before April 19th. 

 

Attention Juniors:  Valley Rural Electric Cooperative, Inc. is offering $500 scholarships  to be used toward future education-related expenses.  The Youth Tour Committee will select recipients based on academic achievement as well as participation in extracurricular activities and/or community service.  Applications can be found in the literature rack outside the guidance office.  Completed applications must be received by April 7, 2023.

 

 

Attention Seniors:  The Epilepsy Association of Western and Central PA is offering 11 scholarships totaling $12,500 for graduating seniors going to college or vocational training.  You must have a diagnosis of epilepsy/seizure disorder from a physician.   Please stop by the guidance office literature rack to pick up more information about these scholarships!  Deadline is April 3, 2023, no exceptions!

 
THE CAROL JO SICHENEDER  MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Applications for the Carol Jo Sicheneder "Mrs. S" $4,000 Memorial Scholarship are now available outside of the counseling office. This scholarship is for scholarship is for Cosmetology students only. Completed applications must be returned to the Salon professional Academy by April 1, 2023.
 
Rudy J. and Annamae Labor Memorial Scholarship
This fund will provide scholarships annually for newly enrolling students who will be attending South Hills School of Business & Technology.
There
will be 10 scholarships available. Each scholarship will total $7,000 to be applied toward the cost of tuition and books. Award money will be distributed evenly over six (6) terms.
Applicant must be accepted into a full time specialized associate’s degree program at South Hills School of Business & Technology.

Valley Rural Electric Youth Tour Scholarship for High School Juniors
For decades Valley Rural Electric Cooperative, Inc. has sponsored high school juniors on the annual National Rural Electric Cooperative Association Tour to Washington DC. Juniors can stop by the literature rack outside the guidance office to pick up an application. Completed Applications must be received by the Member Services Department of the Valley Rural Electric Cooperative by April 7, 2023.
 
Blair County Tea Party Scholarship 
The Blair County Tea Party is offering a $1,000 scholarship for high school seniors who plan to attend college or other type of educational pursuits. To be considered for the scholarship, students need to write a 500 word essay on one of three topics selected by the Blair County Tea Party. Seniors can stop by the Guidance office literature rack for a list of topics and instructions on how to enter. The deadline for this scholarship is March 31, 2023.
 
Student-View Scholarship Program
The student-View Scholarship Program is offering $12,000 worth of scholarships. It is quick and easy to apply for this scholarship with no minimum SAT/ACT score, no essay required and no application fee.  Go online to www.student-view.com or stop by the literature rack outside of the guidance office for information. The deadline to apply is April 22, 2023.
 
The Pennsylvania Burglar & Fire Alarm Association Scholarship
Are you a current senior in high school, the daughter or son of a Fireman or Law enforcement officer and looking for scholarships?  If so, you might be interested in the PBFAA Scholarship which awards $1,000 as a thank you for your parents dedication to the community.  If you are awarded this scholarship, you will automatically be entered in the ESA National Scholarship Program which awards $12,000 for first place and $4,000 for second place.  Click HERE for more information and the application. The deadline to apply is April 14, 2023.
 
Pennsylvania House of Representatives Scholarship Program
the Program enhances educational opportunities for graduating high school seniors who reside in the Commonwealth of PA. The program provides four-year scholarships to two high school seniors per year. Each award consists of the value of one semester of tuition at the State System of Higher Education for each of four years. Students must maintain eligibility in all four years in order to receive the ongoing award.
Eligibility Criteria:
  • Graduating High School Senior
  • Legal Residency in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
  • Attendance at a PA College, university, or career school as a full-time student
  • Academic achievement (minimum 3.0 cumulative high school GPA)
  • Commitment to community and leadership qualities
  • Financial need
*Employees of the House, Legislators nor their dependents are eligible for the program.

PHN Charitable Foundation Scholarship
Every year PHNCF provides $30,000 in academic awards to students pursuing a career in the healthcare or allied health fields. 
Eligibility Criteria
  • Must live in a county that PHN serves
  • Must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Must be pursuing a degree/certificate in an Administrative/Clinical Healthcare or Healthcare-focused field.
  • Must submit an essay contain a minimum of 600 words that explains how you could apply your education goals, and ideals at or with PHN/PHNCF.
Students are only permitted one application submission per year and can either be college-bound or currently enrolled at a public college, private college, or vocational school. Go to primary-health.net/our-foundation

Attention Seniors:   The 2023 Rotary Club of Altoona is offering Scholarships up to $1,500.   Application is below and winners will be announced and notified in April.  A luncheon will be held on either May 16 or May 23 for scholarship recipients.  Applications due back to the guidance department by Monday, March 20, 2023.
Attention Seniors:   Stop by the Guidance Office Literature Rack for a new scholarship opportunity.  We have received applications from the Courage for Kiera Foundation.  If you have been part of the AAHS Music Department throughout High School, you will want to take advantage of this opportunity to apply for a $2,500 Scholarship.  Submissions must be postmarked by March 22.
Attention Seniors:  The PSCA is awarding $1,000 Scholarship for seniors pursing post secondary education.  Please submit a 500 word essay on a school counselor that has made a difference in your academic,  career and/or social-emotional development.  Deadline for this Scholarship is April 1st. 
Attention Seniors:  Stop by the Guidance Office Literature rack for information on the Gary R Brown Environmental Scholarship for anyone with a GPA of 3.0 or higher and pursuing a degree in the field of Environmental Science or Environmental Engineering.  Applications must be received by April 21, at 4 pm.  
Attention Seniors:  Stop by the Guidance Office Literature rack for information on the Pitman/Hansard Family scholarship.  The purpose of the scholarship is to give two $1000.00 scholarships to deserving students to help support their higher education of an accredited trade school, college or university.  Applications must be received by May 5 
Attention Seniors:  Please stop by the Guidance Office for a new Scholarship opportunity.  Applications are now being accepted for the Kai Burkett Memorial Scholarship. You must have a 3.5 GPA or higher, you must be an athlete and engage in the great outdoors in some fashion. Deadline is May 12th.
