Mission Statement

School Counseling Mission Statement  
 
  1. The Altoona Area Secondary School Counseling Department is committed to promoting and enhancing the learning process. The counseling program is designed to encourage and assist with the academic, career, social and personal development of all students in relation to their total school experience. Accordingly, the school counseling program reflects the Altoona Area School District's primary and secondary mission.

  2. The school counselor's role is to develop and implement the planned program, which directly addresses key goals of academic success and career development.

  3. The counselor is the key figure in the program, working directly for the benefit of the students and serving a s a resource person for parents, teachers, and administrators in helping children and youth meet their developmental needs. The focus of the counseling program is on the individual student for whom the counselor strives to provide a meaningful educational experience.

  4. The ultimate outcome is for students to maximize their potential and acquire the skills to meet their individual and career goals.



Under the leadership of department chairperson, Drew Yingling, the AAHS counseling department works diligently to support AAHS students.
