Speech League

Speech League provides students with opportunities to develop speaking and acting skills. Team members compete in three meets against students from approximately thirty high schools in Blair, Cambria, Somerset, and Bedford counties.

Members may choose to compete in one of the following events: Oral Interpretation of Prose, Poetry, Humorous Drama, Serious Drama, Informative or Persuasive Speaking, and Extemporaneous Commentary. Some events require memorization or composition while others do not.

District competition takes place in March. Superior performance allows students to progress to State and even National Tournaments. Nationals have been held in Washington, D.C., and West Palm Beach, Florida.
